Great deal on a great system. I got the 3 camera deal at Sams for $359. Otherwise, I would have gotten this deal...

$399 for refurb. Not sure if it's worth a refurb for only $30 savings.

Are you kidding? $429 is an awesome deal. The Sams deal was awesome too for $359 plus $30 3 year warranty. I went with that a month ago.

I never said that $429 was not a great price for new.

Extended warranties however are never a good deal. In the long run you will always come out ahead by passing on extended warranties. There's a reason why extended warranties are offered, because they are profitable to those that sell them.

Damn, I wish Staples carried the 4 camera kit. For some reason, they only have the 1, 2, and 3 camera kits. 110% price match plus all my rewards would have been sweet.

I was looking at that too. I was going to pricematch and use staples giftcards I bought at 20% off but sadly no 4 camera system at staples. I'll have to go through ebay and use the Amex 25% off ebay gift cards I bought through staples. Smilie

$30 for 3 years through squartrade is nothing...especially the fact that these cameras are exposed to heat, rain, snow all year round...i rather not take a chance, and spend the $30 to potentially recoup $359.

Of course, this what keeps extended warranty companies in business and profitable, the fears people have that they will need to replace their stuff if it fails. But in the long run if you add up all of those extended warranties over the course of your life it's a losing proposition. If instead you put that money aside each time you were tempted to buy an extended warranty you would be able to replace everything that failed within the time period you would have been warrantied for and still have money left over.

Don't forget that credit cards double a one year warranty for free. So that's two years of warranty for no cost. By buying a three year warranty you are also failing to take advantage of the free two year extended warranty. In essence the three year warranty is really only one year of extended coverage and you are betting money that your stuff will fail between year two and three. There are better odds in Vegas.

For this item as well chances are if something fails between year two and three it would be a single camera, not the entire system. So in that situation you'd only be on the hook to replace that camera not buy another $350 system.

There is a limited situation I can think of where an extended warranty might make sense and that is if you are buying multiple identical items at the same time. For example, if you were buying five sets of these cameras. By buying one extended warranty this means you could potentially use it if any of the 20 cameras fail.

$30 for 3 years isn't bad even if only one camera breaks they are still $160 a piece so it would still be worth it.

Should I keep the Sams club 3 Pack that included 2 outdoor mounts for $359, or buy this from BB/AMZ? How much is extended warranty? At Sams it was only $30 for 3 years, and additional 4th year if I am still a Sams member...

That Sam's club deal sounds pretty good.

I managed to buy the 2 camera units from Target when they had their price mistake weeks ago.

I purchased two units at $179.99 each and used my Redcard for an additional 5%.
Each unit comes with 2 cameras and a base so I plan to sell one of the extra bases.

Installed two this past weekend and so far so good.
