Anyone have any experience with the new Guardzilla outdoor camera similar to Arlo

Beartrkkr 2,265 638 June 12, 2016 at 10:21 AM More Walmart Deals
This is similar to the Arlo outdoor camera in that it can be battery operated. Their website says they are shipping in July, but I have seen them at a local Walmart for $99. Not to be confused with their triangular looking non-hd indoor camera/alarm system.

This is a pic someone posted on the Guardzilla Facebook page (and higher priced than MSRP).

Guardzilla's new outdoor security and monitoring camera is now available at Walmart and Target. Affordable security at $99.00 and no monthly monitoring fees or contracts.

Why? Seems like a reasonable solution to where you cannot run wires easily (like the Arlo that seems popular). So long are you are in wireless range it should work, say mounted to a tree facing your property, no wires needed.

Not everyone is wanting to fish wires through the attic and walls.

Wireless unreliable, period end of story. Battery powered is even worse because
1) you must replace batteries - murphys law will certainly kick in.
2) You cannot stream 24/7 to an indoor monitor
3) you cannot capture pretrigger motion because the camera only activates when a subject is close by and detected by PIR.
4) You cannot cover action at a distance.
5)No integration with third party apps/nvr/recorders

Pay a profession 100 dollars to run the cable for you. Problem solved. Now you can use any camera you wish and dont have to futz around with changing batteries, missing motion, and wifi issues.

There is one location where wires are not going to work and I don't need 24/7 monitoring, just need to know if someone is messing around, and if they are I'd like to get notification on my phone.

The Arlo system seems to be popular with people wanting simple notification, not non-stop video recording. This is similar but much cheaper. If it's not for you fine, but the popularity of Arlo's completely wireless system says someone is buying them.

Plus, we tend to vacation at homes with wireless access. I could point a camera towards our vehicles while we are there.

Details on the product that looks like your picture are non-existent. Their other product has a pretty poor review on cnet and has to be plugged in.

fakespot isn't as kind to the Arlo as Amazon reviews: http://www.fakespot.com/product/a...by-netgear

Running wires will give better results. You'd be surprised what somebody can do with a magnepull. See if there's anybody who runs cables that gives free estimates.

There is no such thing as a location where wires are not going to work. You are better off hiring a professional to run the cable. Folks who buy arlo are fooled by the sales pitch. They could run cable instead of overpaying for poor cables and then a perpetual monthly fee which still has limited storage capability. ADT sells lots of alarm systems with 50 dollar a month monitoring, does that mean its good? I could go on and on. Folks buying something doesn't make it good.
You vacationing in high crime areas? Please...it seems like you are already set on buying it, so go ahead....

Don't forget what people pay for ADT's QVGA cameras that's 320x240 pixels. Yep a blob with a face broke in... some of them actually run lower than that 160x120.

Cellphones in 2003 could record that res and they're still selling this crap.

lol. I had a vivint guy come to my office trying to sell me that crap. He claimed vivint actually manufactured the alarm and camera. After I pointed out that was a lie, I showed him what a true surveillance system looks like.

What system would you recommend that doesn't involve me breaking into a bank?

Anything less than $500?

You can wait for a sale if you want to pay less. This includes costco's lifetime return policy.
