Is there a big difference between the 870 and 860? Bed Bath and Beyond has the 860 for the same price at $449.99, but I think a previous deal said they'll sometimes take the 20% off coupon (YMMV).

870 is brushless. This is only lukewarm. I got the 870 on iRobot for 391.87 shipped. Wait for iRobot clearance deals.

I would get the 860. It's got a lithium battery so the battery will have a longer life (not necessarily run longer but have more charges). The 860 also has one of the newer virtual wall/halo dual mode barriers vs. the old virtual wall/lighthouse combo that never seemed to work properly.

870 has the brushless system and 860 has the lithium battery .. It that the main difference? Does the 900 models have both ? TIA

The 870 and 860 are almost the same thing. The main functionality is the same. The 860 has the Lithium battery and the 870 has a second virtual wall. The features of the units themselves are the same.

As the 900 series came out, irobot discounintued some of the older models like the entire 700 series, so the 860 became the new "entry level" (I think they still make one of the 600 series ones as the true entry level), The 860 is a very good value compared to the 870 (now discontinued replaced by the 860) at MSRP, mainly due to their marketing decision to cut price (and give it a new model number and color). Discounts for now make the 870 the same or cheaper than the 860.

The 900 series uses the same brushless suction technology as the 800 series and also has a lithium battery. The 900 series is app and wifi enabled, and uses a different room cleaning pattern based on scanning the room and such. Not sure how well it works. It also has charge and resume, so if it doesn't finish the floor and can go charge and then finish it, which the other models can't.

860 is better with a newer battery, a dual mode light wall instead of the two light walls that come with 870, and is $50 cheaper.
