Thread Details

Today at WWDC 2016, Apple just announced that the Dish Network is launching its cable-like television service, Sling TV, on Apple TV. The newest Apple TV box will be discounted to $89 when people pre-pay for three months of Sling TV's $20-a-month subscription. This deal is currently available at the moment.

On top of that, if you are a T-Mobile customer, you can get 30% off monthly for 12 months, which will bring the monthly subscription down to $14/month. Not too bad for all ESPN, CNN, AMC, TNT channels... Please note: you don't really need any specific TMobile Account information, just any phone number from T-Mobile would work absolutely fine.

To all soccer fans: it works great for all Euro 2016 matches on ESPN/ESPN2.

Link for the T-Mobile deal: https://www.sling.com/tmobile

Hope it helps. woot

You only need T-Mobile phone number? I guess everybody will get this 30% off.

I would highly recommend avoiding Sling. The service is unfortunately unusable.

I was extremely interested in their product as I have cut the cord and I wanted to use the service to watch the Copa America and Euro soccer tournaments, but the quality is absolutely horrible. It basically switches every 5-10 seconds from HD to an image clarity that is so poor I can only make out the shapes of the players on the field. I have been better off watching streams I can find online. Their customer service was very poor when I tried to deal with them.

I use Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO Go without issue, so this is certainly not a bandwidth issue. Check other reviews and you'll see what I mean.

You say it is "certainly not a bandwidth issue" but what is your bandwidth per:

As an aside we own a Fire TV Stick. How does Apple TV compare to Fire TV? Is there a reason to own an $80 Apple TV when a Fire TV stick is ballpark $35?

I only experience quality issues while the app is just starting/buffering. Then I get HD without issue. I'll admit the interface in the iOS/android app stinks but once it's going, it does a decent job streaming. But that's just speaking to my experience.

So how do you get both?
Do I sign up for appletv first and then log into the link you posted later to get 30%?

Sling is still a ways off from being a truly viable option. I got it for the playoffs and the TNT streams kept falling off and stopping. No customer support really. Cancelled my subscription in the trial period just from the straight frustration.

I use sling every day. 3 months in and no problems. I have a 100 Mbps line though.

Has this gotten any better? I had issues with chromecast and it would stutter and disconnect at times

If you have a FireTV or PS3/PS4, Vue is far superior

I subscribed last year to check their service. Their windows desktop app on my laptop kept crashing like every 10 minutes. Unsubscribe.

After a year, I was curious to see if they improved any. Subscribed again a couple of days ago. Same issue. Their desktop app keeps crashing like every 10-15 minutes. So, they did not change anything apparently.

I was and am on a 100Mbps connection. Every other streaming service (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YuppTv etc) works well. The issue is only with Sling. I tried on different laptops with different OS (Win 7, 8, 10). Same result everywhere.

I could not even load desktop app to begin with. However, their app on fire stick works just fine.

I highly doubt its gotten better since last time I tried it. I think they keep doing these streaming deals with devices all the time just to get people to use it for 3 months.
