Thread Details

Recent negotiations with various local channels are not going too well and Dish has had to temporarily drop some local channels in certain area, so Dish is offering a free OTA antenna for some of there affect customers. Here is the note from their www.dishpromise.com site.

DISH offering "over-the-air" antennas to watch Tribune's local broadcast channels
While DISH works to reach an agreement, the company is offering "over-the-air" antennas at no cost so that customers in affected markets can watch Tribune's local broadcast channels for free. DISH customers must call 1-800-333-3474 to confirm market eligibility and system compatibility.

Not sure what kind of antenna you will be getting though

Dangerous move, but a honest one on DN part..

A lot of folks do not know that ConCrap owns NBC/ Universal and about 40% or more of other programming found on just about any cable system. When the base Programming that IS KonKast is up for renewal at your local provider, you see a msg on the bottom of your screen. "call XXXXX to say you want your TV. KonKrAP is holding you local provider hostage over a price increase. Capitulate or loose the "back bone" of your service.

You do not have to have CrapCast for them to have control of your cable bill but If you have a antenna, the local stations cant hold "other" providers hostage either.

If more folks wised up and put a antenna up, the local threats would be done with. I feel it is a gamble for DN. Once you get a antenna, you will see a better picture any one one can get for free! A lot of folks will flush the whole idea of cable / satellite down the drain.

You could buy Netflix / Amazon / HBO / Showtime for the one month "your show" becomes available. You could rotate free months to help save even more. Rotate the free trials on your smart TV , Roku, or Amazon device!

Yeah, once someone with a good antennae sees a high def picture, then compares it to comcrap or even directv, you will really wonder WHY you pay so much for an inferior signal..

Dish is a scumbag company. They're holding so much wireless spectrum hostage that could be deployed by wireless carriers. I hope every local channel drops them.

I have been with DISH w/ 20 years and couldn't be happier.
I just got the Hopper 3 as a replacement for my old Hopper and it's awesome.
Their customer service department has been great every single time I've called them.
I will also say this, they have offered me something free every time I have called when they dropped a channel. My dish bill is less than all my neighbors.. rambling.. happy customer here, but I will call when they drop these channels for a week.
With them dropping the NFL Network this week there is another good reason to call them and get something free. Yup, guilty.. I call every time. Why not?

I had Dish for about 20yrs, dropped them about 2 1/2yrs ago for an OTA w/Netflix, amazon video. Was nice to cut the cord and get the dish off the roof! Anyways while I had them, there was an OTA port on the back of the receiver that I connected to an antenna, and at first the guide showed the local channels and their info correctly, then Dish stopped giving you the guide info, I think to get you to buy their local pckg. The amout of channels and the signal quality from using OTA was far superior than Dish's locals! While you're scrolling through your Dish program guide, ask yourself just how many of these channels do I actually watch. I get about 50 watchable channels OTA, FREE! I have 3 HTPCs that I use with WMC to DVR with a 4Tb HD. I also have 3 HDHomeruns which gives me 6 tuners on my network to work with. I also use windows 7 caller ID software so I get the on screen caller ID, just like the dish receiver, have to make the switchover as painless as possible!

I received a $30 one time credit for calling. I am already receiving a $30/month discount on a
previous deal.

I'm imagining taking something away from my customers and then asking them to help me negotiate for me with my suppliers so I can give them back that thing.

Then I realize that its completely unprofessional, ridiculous, and that'd have resulted in losing my customers. And then Netflix.
