Does this have that 'raid' port or whatever for external graphics card?

I'd say no. From what I found online, it has a USB 3.1 Gen 2. You would want the 3rd generation with Thunderbolt. Gen 2 runs at 10Gbps and Gen 3 is 40. You would need that extra bandwidth for an external GPU. Bear in mind that there aren't really many options for eGPU. Alienware uses a proprietary connector. I don't know if the Razer Core will eventually work. Good deal OP. I'm tempted to get the 970m version.

It's hard to justify paying $1050 for a 970m system when I've seen deals in the $1200 range for 980m systems with similar specs.

I've been looking for about a month and haven't seen anything new around that price. Link please.

I had looked at that one as well, but the 90d warranty with no option to extend killed it for me. Btw, I decided to go with this deal since I had recently gotten a $1300 refund for an absolutely disastrous Lenovo repair debacle. Here's the specs (I added 8GB of RAM, a 1 TB HDD, and artic silver):

That's the one I thought you might post. It is a refurb, but was a good deal. I was tempted.

I just got the GE72 Pro (970m) last week from a different deal, and had to pay $69 to upgrade to the 512gb SSD that's included in this one. Mad

Aside from that, the only difference I'm seeing in specs between this and the previous deal (http://slickdeals.net/f/8821527-back-in-stock-msi-ge62-apache-gaming-laptop-gtx-960m-extras-899-msi-ge62-apache-pro-gaming-laptop-gtx-970m-extras-1-044-05-free-shipping-ibuypower) is the sound card.

The deal I bought has "HD Audio with Creative Soundblaster Cinema"
This deal has "HD Audio with Dynaudio System"

Including my customization and the 5% discount code on the previous deal, I paid $1250.
Adding the same customization and discount to this deal, it adds up to $1151.

Can anyone tell me if the sound card is worth $100 price difference? (I've tried googling, but apparently I'm not wording it correctly, because I'm not finding any relevant info)
iBuyPower is telling me they won't make any price adjustments, and my only option is to cancel my current order and place a new one (which means I'd have to wait even longer to get the damn thing). Ugh.

its a good deal, but its has a hasewell processor. as far as I know skylake is much more power efficient.

That was a good deal, no doubt about it. I thought about holding out longer, i.e. the fall to see if AMD/Nvidia graphics end up being compelling (and, in the case of AMD, perhaps relatively inexpensive). I'm tired of chasing the "best" performance and paying price premiums for it, so I just decided to bite the bullet and get a good deal now (additionally, the current laptop I use exhausts out the sides and super heats my mouse hand and is probably giving my cat who tends to sleep on my left leg burns, sigh!).

The difference between 970m and 980m is far greater than the difference between haswell & skylake.
