Car charger for a Dell Tablet (Venue Pro 11 7140)

Pedantyc 4,499 566 June 15, 2016 at 02:02 PM More Dell Home & Office Deals
I was looking for a car charger for my dell tablet and found that Dell suggests this one:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=a6784319

It does work but it appears that it only charges in a slow mode similar to what a phone charger delivers.

Looks like the charger only delivers 19.5v/4.5A to the larger barrel plug and only a puny 5v/2A to the usb. I can see why they didn't want to fry peoples phones but slow charging this tablet is basically a 12+ hour affair now with this connection.

Since the DVP11 uses a micro USB for charging I don't seem to have any decent options here. Does anyone know how sane it would be to try a splice job myself to create a 19.5/4.5A USB jack on here or even better actually find a charger for the tablet that can let me fast charge in the car?

Would a barrel to USB adapter work?

Have you tried the 40PIN Tip that plugs into the bottom of the Venue 11. May deliver more amps that way.

Is there a cable for that one? I know that it can charge from the dock but I have yet to see a car charger with that tip on it.

Edit: well crap, I see what you are taking about. Looks like the package I was sent didn't have that tip.

Wonder what the odds are of me finding it separately.

Call Targus to see if you can have a replacement tip sent to you.

Any reason to not simply get a power inverter for the car and using your standard wall plug-in charger for the tablet?

After ordering a deal immediately delete your deal alert. You got your item; you don't want it shipped with a side of remorse.

I could and actually already have one. I would prefer to avoid yet another brick to carry around and would also rather not have to convert DC -> AC -> DC to charge a tablet.

Well this appears to be annoying. The item I bought was directly from Targus which is why it doesn't have that connector I want even though it has the same model number as the Dell one with the connector tip.

Targus doesn't make it and dell doesn't sell it separately. Looks like I may go with what you linked here or try to find the full kit on ebay.
