I have experience between Nest and the Honeywell wifi thermostat. I bought the nest and put it in my townhouse. 6 months in, the temperature reading was always 7 degrees warmer. To be comfortable, I would have to set it at 77 degrees.

I RMA'd the old one and Nest was easy to deal with. They sent me a brand new unit in its place. It worked well for a year and we ended up putting the house up for sale. I forgot to replace the unit with my old thermostat and somebody came through the house, noticed the Nest and basically put an offer on the house after that (not kidding!).

We moved into a new house and I didn't want to drop the money on another nest, but wanted wifi access. For $90, I picked up a Honeywell wifi thermostat. The app is clunky and the unit does no detecting if and when you leave. I would rather have the nest, but the honeywell does it functions ok.

why not get it for free with signing a contract with an electricity company? In Texas many electricity providers are doing that.

in all seriousness, this now matches the ecobee sales price. Besides from the ecobee remote sensor, is there any other differences between the two?

Well that's true. It won't be free but probably much cheaper compared to paying a couple hundred bucks upfront. The rates for electricity are competitive with these companies.

The Nest V3 unit has an Apple type of build quality in my eyes. It is a very heavy and solid piece and the dial to rotate feels like it could be in a Rolls Royce, it is smooth as butter. Ecobee on the other hand I have never experienced so I can't help you there.

Any other coupons? I didn't have the Amex offer. I have two thermostats currently, and I guess it would be best to buy two of these to replace both.

I assume these have to be placed in the same spot as the old thermostats, to use the same wiring?

Thanks!

I have had all three Generations of Nest and the third gen is a very stable build and accurate. I used the Ecobee for a month and returned it due to a number of reasons like lag and simplicity that I loved with the Nest. The Nest is a better product in my opinion. Also check with your local energy company as there are rebates going on in my state (WA). $75 back.
