smoky texture is being projected from my viewsonic

I've never seen this before, I was able to see some smoky, kinda chemical gas-like texture moving on the projected image from my viewsonic projector.

Is this an indication of a faulty part or bulb? I tried to take a video and you can kinda see it but not as well as in real life.

From my experience when the smoke escapes something is about ready to quit.

Yeah once the magic smoke escapes you can't put it back in.

What type/model of projector? LCD or DLP?

DLP. viewsonic said it's normal but I'm not sure if that right...

Smoke coming from electronics is not normal unless it's a smoke machine or something like that. Does it continuously produce smoke or was this a 1 time thing?

it's not smoke from the machine but a smoky texture that is being projected...

I can't comment on that, but I'd be more concerned if this was happening on an lcd projector.
