Might want to mention it's a refurb----my bad, you did say RECON. I just figured out that's what that meant :-)

$429.99 at Costco for a new one.

$429 deal ended at Costco on the 10th (I took a picture of the price tag on the shelf).

Not sure how good/bad these reconditioned ones are. Reviews seem to be all over the map, either a ton of good ones, or a ton of negative ones.

Think for $430 I would not roll the dice. Generac inverter generators don't have the Yamaha / Honda track record for reliability unfortunately and are priced accordingly.

I take my previous comment back. Was at Costco and they extended the sale. Still 429.99 for this unit brand new.

these are junk. Costco won't carry them for long, trust me.

I recall you saying this very recently. Now, to be honest, I'm probably going to get that Champion 2800w inverter generator that you recommended (it IS on sale at Costco now), but I wanted to get your rationale on why you think these are junk. You advice is well-respected around here, so I am genuinely interested.

Thanks.

not sure if this is still on amazon or if they tried to clear out the negative reviews now that the new model is out...

the issues with the Generac 2000W / Honeywell 2000W (they are the same re-branded inverter generator):

- much louder than the competition
- not fuel efficient when compared to the competition
- not parallel capable
- not reliable long term (start issues, oil leaks, etc)
- low quality (people were claiming it would trip off not even getting close to the rated running wattage)

you're making an excellent decision going with the Champion 2800W one.

Picked up an ix2000 at Costco last year when they were $500, $50 off. Ran once last fall, this year can't keep the damn thing running. Was going to return and try again for $430, but the reviews are still all over the place.

What would you recommend in the 2000w size one for car camping/easy portability? My step dad bought the Champion 2800w with the remote for his fifth wheel and it started right up after sitting for 8 months.

get the Smarter Tools AP2000iQ from Costco. $599
has the same Yamaha MZ80 engine and can be taken to any Yamaha dealer for service.

i've had a pair of those for 2 years, run great. start up in 1-3 pulls even after sitting for a while

Thanks... Remember hearing nothing but good things about those on here. Didn't know about the service part; makes it even better. Was hoping they'd eventually hit $500, but I guess getting cash for returns bought with Amex at Costco is gonna be a 2% money maker, it'll be pretty close with the 5% cash back with Chase Freedom next month.

$599 is the lowest you'll find this generator. it's typically $650 at Amazon and Home Depot. every once and a while Amazon drops to $599.

the only time this generator dropped to $550 was when the AP2000i (not parallel capable) was being clearanced for the AP2000iQ (parallel capable).

IMO, the AP2000iQ is the best value for the dollar. you get the engine that the $900 Yamaha EF2000iS has, for 1/3 less, and you get a USB port and gas tank gauge. i have actually found Smarter Tools customer service to be top notch. i'm talking in many cases same-day email replies from their primary customer service rep (his name is Eric). any issues you can just return to Costco or contact them and they'll send authorization right to your nearest Yamaha dealer. if you want routine service, just stop into any Yamaha dealer (carb cleaning, tune up, etc)

Hmm... Less than $2 more at Costco.com when I factor in 6% sales tax and 2% CC CB, than with Amazon, no sales tax, and 5% off with Prime CC... Just might be worth the extra $2 for the easy returns to Costco store. Haha.

I'm assuming the ST's one is better on gas than the ix2000, like you mentioned in a previous comment?
