Dang, I've been stocking up on 4TB...

Fair price, almost inline with $/TB on the 4TB. Surprised these have not had a further price break...

Appears the code only applies to a single drive. I had two drive in my cart and it only gave a $20 discount.

When you're making one of the best products out there, you don't have to give customers price breaks.

Any reason you couldn't do two transactions?

if you've never owned an HGST before (esp. the 5TB and 6TB ones), be aware that they are loud. apparently, they have a background feature that continually scans every 3-6 secs when the drive is idle (no data being accessed).

you constantly hear the seeking ticking noise every few seconds if you use this drive in your desktop. i just got the a 5TB last week from the Egg and i instantly regret it. obviously, if you use this in a NAS in another room, it's not an issue. and these drives are supposedly very reliable.

you can all of the the reviews about the noise at amazon:

I know what you are talking about. I had a pair of 1TB drives in my Synology which I out grew recently after little over 5 years of service. The drives were still operational after 24x7x365x5 operations!!! There was no doubt in my mind that I would replace them with any other brand. So I just loaded the 5 year old Synology with 3TB versions of these drives. My NAS is in the basement so the noise is not an issue for me, but even if that wasn't the case I would still have gotten these drives.

All three Macs in my house hold are configured to do time machine backups (almost hourly), and the iPhones/iPad upload all pictures automatically, so these are in constant use all the time. I hope the new ones are as reliable as the ones I just retired.

HGST is supposedly one of the brands to least fail, according to a cloud backup and storage company.

I had a WD mybook before and it just so happens it failed right after warranty. The data from the company makes sense to me.

As an hgst employee, I thank you all for your purchases. But in all honesty, they are great drives.
