Use Microsoft 10 % student discount. Just below the ADD to CART Button, you will see Save 10% on Education Store option, and the Shop Now Link. Click on that, select your state, Zip Code and School and check I am a student, parent of a student, or faculty eligible for education pricing. Now 10% Student Discount will be applied to all the Education Store eligible products, including this one.

DVD drive in 2016? Yuck.

Also it's a dual core i7, many i5s will be faster.

Other than that good deal, assuming you upgrade the harddrive to an SSD on your own.

I don;t think many Core i5 are faster than, unless you compare the Quad Core i5-6300HQ

What do you mean dual core i7? Why does it make i5 faster?

Thank you.

The 10% discount is misleading, $25 discount from a $500 laptop is 5% now matter how you look at it.Confused

It's a dual core processor, meaning it's half as fast as if it was a quad core processor. Best thing to do is look up passmark scores and compare it to other processors.

A high end i7 laptop will be more than twice as fast, because it will have twice the number of cores and they will each be slightly faster.

That said, I might have misspoken. There are probably mobile i5s that are very close in speed, but probably not faster. Desktop i5s will be faster than this.

I may have misspoken, and you may be correct. This chip is closer to an i5 than what most people think of as an i7 though.

As long as they know what they are getting, fine. I just don't want anyone to think this thing is super fast.

All U series Core series Processors are dual cores. Now how core i7 dual core performs better than dual core i5....slightly higher base and turbo clock speed and 1MB extra L3 cache, 3MB vs 4MB.

And all Desktop i5 are quad core, and runs on higher clock speed. So they are faster.
