The Backup Plus portable drive includes 200GB of cloud storage with OneDrive for 2 years for added protection and on-the-go access for your most important files.1 Back up to the cloud using OneDrive or Seagate Dashboard. Maybe, someday, this model will hit $99.99. Pretty good deal at $104 though, and with the ability to easily remove the drive for internal use, it's a good price.

Any recommendations, between the WD and Seagate?

They both are good as long as you don't drop it

Would there be any issue running my Plex server on this? I always assumed I had to use something faster but googling seems to indicate that it wouldn't be an issue, especially if I'm the only user?

HGST seems to be the most reliable the past few years.

Wirecutter says the Seagate drive is slightly faster, but also recommends the WD.

Seagate haters will certainly be here shortly. Biggest reason (for me) to get these is to remove the drive for internal SATA usage (actually 2 in a Raid 1 pool). The WD external drives have the USB interface "integrated," but are quite fast/reliable for the intended use (I have many of the 1 and 2TB models and have had no problems at all).

I believe this is the old version 4tb drive, not the latest.

I'm going to have a mental breakdown, if I don't get my eBay Bucks promotion fix soon. I've been waiting weeks. I'm sorry, I know no one cares. I just had to vent. I'm starting to lose it over here.

They've had an advertisement on their front page a couple of times over the past week, talking about how you need to make sure you sign up for their eBay Bucks program, mentioning how you could earn up to 10x back.

I told myself I was just going to order my stuff, with or without the bucks, but I just know that, with my luck, a promotion will come a day or two after I make my purchases.

You will not win, eBay.

That sites says, "The Backup Plus is one of the speediest drives we tested, averaging read and write speeds of 174 MB/s and 168 MB/s, respectively--about 50 MB/s faster than our previous pick for best external hard drive." That's really fast! According to Google, "A 7200RPM hard drive is an improvement over the 5400RPM, but it is not considerably faster. In general, you can expect a read speed of about 128MB/s and a write speed of 120MB/s." from the site https://www.cpureport.com/enhance...ard-drive/. Here's what I searched: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ss...hard+drive.

I've been searching for 7200 rpm internal hard disk drives for my first PC build, but if there's any external hard drives out there that are faster, like this one, perhaps I should be searching for those instead, especially since they usually tend to be cheaper.

The review posted above is for the 5 TB Seagate Backup Plus, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that the 4 TB Seagate Backup Plus that's on sale here will have similarly fast read and write speeds.
