MicroCenter B&M has some decent deals on enthusiast-level Intel CPUs. Less slick after tax, but still deals.
Lots of research into this, and not clear that any of these are obviously preferable to the i7-6700k, but good prices alll the same.

Both have option of bundling MoBo for $30-off discount. Remember that Haswell-E and Broadwell-E require the X99 chipset motherboard, and those tend to run a little more expensive than Z170 chipsets.

$319 - i7-5820k [microcenter.com] - 6 core Haswell-E, $389 @ Newegg

$400 - i7-6800k [microcenter.com] - 6-core Broadwell-E, $440 @ Newegg

also avail but not technically 'enthusiast-level':

i7-4790k - $289.99 [microcenter.com] - 4 core, popular 'Devil's Canyon,' $340 @ Newegg

these are something is better than nothing deal until you combine the $30 off bundle with mobo, then it becomes a deal. not slick yet though

I think the 4790K is the only one lower than Microcenter's usual low price ($310). The 5820K price is the same as always and the 6800K is new

Skip 4790K as motherboard and DDR3 are going to obsolete or no more manufacturing, or just want to get in on the closeout.

H81/B85/H97/Z97 boards are very much same price as H110/B150/H170/Z170, unless you already snitched Z97 good branded boards recently for dirt cheap.

6700k. the 5820k has 4 more threads, but:
  1. 8 threads is totally sufficient for nearly all tasks
  2. 5820k requires an x99 chipset, which is easily another $100 for a MoBo, and locks you in to 'enthusiast grade chips' if you want to upgrade in the future (undoubtedly more $$). from what I've read, the 4 xtra threads just doesn't justify the added expense.

though to be frank, the i5 6600k is more than sufficient for regular gaming/streaming w/ its 4 threads. put that extra $$ somewhere else (eg, gpu)

happens around black friday sometimes, the i5 4690k was 149 at frys last year

hard to say if 6th gen will be in production this black friday or if will all be gen 7

i'd like to get a 4790 or 4790k if the deal is right, i just don't think they are worth current pricing. as others have pointed out, ddr4 and z170 is about the same price as ddr3 and z97

a 4790k at 239-249 i'd probably grab, sell my 4690k for 140 or so and have a reasonably priced upgrade

it is. They were cheaper last year. We haven't seen that 249 price point in a long time. They keep hovering around $300 to 320
