I just got an email about Squaretrade discontinuing their rewards program. Better redeem yours before that turns into nothing!

Dear SquareTrade Customer,

We want to let you know that the SquareTrade Rewards program is ending soon. (We've found that our customers prefer savings to rewards.) You have until July 18, 2016 to redeem your rewards points for free protection plans. Plans may only be used to protect items purchased within the last 30 days. After July 18, all unused points will expire.

Visit to log into your account and check your point balance. (You need at least 5,000 points to earn a free protection plan.) If you have any questions, please email

Thank you for being a loyal SquareTrade customer!

99.9% of these reward programs are total crap. I don't bother because I just assume they will evaporate by the time I can use it. I'd be willing to bet SQ realized folks are finally accruing enough points to use for something worthwhile such as the next iPhone release, so what better time to discontinue the program than a couple of months before it launches. Sleezy stuff in my opinion.

I just canceled a Wal-Mart warranty order and replaced it with a better (but more costly) SquareTrade warranty for free!

I love the "prefer savings to rewards." Uh, SquareTrade has gone up, and up, in the recent past. I highly doubt prices will go down, or even stay the same, over the next year.

Just six months ago, it cost 3,000 points to cover a PS4/Xbone. Now it costs 5,000 points. Last year it cost 1,800 points.

They are growing too big to server us peasants, now that they have partnerships with Staples, Best Buy, and Amazon.
