There is a deal right now where you can order a sim card for free with a 10/month cost which is credited to your account if you have a phone line, so it is free. You get 200Mb of data a month with this. If you don't have a phone line you can buy the sim for $4 on a prepaid plan so there is no monthly cost.
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.co...-1-SIM-Kit
To get sim for free with an account just go here: /www.t-mobile.com/internet-devices/t-mobile-data-3-in-1-sim-kit.html
[t-mobile.com]
Then add a line and complete the steps choosing the on demand plan so you get 200Mb/month at no cost. It will show 10/month in cart, but it will also say that with phone line it will be credited. Put in promocode FREESIM once you are at the page right before checkout.

To get it without a phone line go here: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.co...-1-SIM-Kit

Then just purchase it with code SIMDEAL

Edit: this is expired and I don't know how to mark expired

I don't know if you can do that because I heard they track from IMEI numbers so that the sim only works on one device, but you never know it is still free.

Or for $1 more you can buy at BestBuy or Amazon ($4.99), nothing to sign-up for now, just have SIM card available when you need it (like I did when I got a new phone and had to use Nano SIM and my old phone used Micro).

For the completely free one yes for prepaid no it is just 200Mb and it could be called on demand, but idk

The prepaid one acts the same as I believe you don't need any plan with it

SIMDEAL code appears to be dead/expired. I couldn't get "FREESIM" to work but maybe it requires signing up for a monthly paid plan to work (not what I am interested in). Wonder if this is dead or if I just didn't do something right. I'm going on a cross country road trip in a week and do not have a data plan yet, for something cheap and short term, anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks. I've been looking for a Nano SIM but wasn't going to pay $15. Didn't think about looking on Amazon, and $5 is reasonable!

So is the 200MB/month still going on even if you buy the sim at full price? Do you have to buy the sim to get the 200MB/month or is there a signup even without a new sim?

The 200MB for life is still available, but now you would have to buy a sim and other stores have them cheaper. Just go to your local T-mobile and ask if you can get a sim from somewhere else and if they say yes buy one for $5. Also you can call all the local ones if you don't want to waste gas money.

Is it true? One IMEI per sim card?

Someone in this board once said they were able to use 600MB free data per month by switch 3 sim cards inside their tablet.
