Geek Squad certified is absolute GARBAGE, they are frequently scratched/damaged/missing items unworthy of paying extra. Think liquidator quality, you really have no idea what you are getting. I would rather go open box or just refurbished. The BB reviews seem to confirm the same thing.

There's a reason these Geek Squad certified prices are so cheap. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Trust me, save yourself the hassle and avoid these at all costs.

Amen. I have this fortune of picking up a MacBook 15 inch that was geek squad certified and within minutes of turning it on, I had an over heat issue. I took it to the Apple Store and found out that the MacBook was missing its fans. As if someone actually took out the fan!! Unbelievable.

Just a suspicion, but I really believe Geek Squad Certified means one of two things:
1) Best Buy employees are un-informed/un-aware of buyers returning products with the internals being tampered or removed, and still issuing full refunds

2) Best Buy employees are doing the tampering themselves

Either way, Geek Squad Certified = 100% crap

Probably someone who needed parts, I bought a geek squad certified macbook air and I can say with certainty that the charger it came with was not the one it was shipped with from the factory (same 45 watt charger but used and dirty) . Clearly someone had swapped out theirs for it. But the charger works so, whatever. The laptop was at least in like new shape and warranty not registered.

I have been keeping an eye on these cheap "certified" iMacs for some time over the last month and I have seen the reviews pop up and abandoned the idea of getting one after virtually every review was a warning.

If I was the CEO someone would be getting a performance improvement plan over this garbage. At first I thought these were the ones youd see on cowboom but clearly these are worse.

If you don't know this by now, Geed Squad "technicians" are a bunch of salesmen that know nothing about repairing computers.

I said this as someone who regularly repair laptops.

Ended up returning it back to Best Buy. They didn't even check it. Two days later that same laptop was Geek Squad certified again. -__-x

I wonder what Best Buy does when eventually no one buys it (after so many returns).

I would totally buy it for 50+% off and repair it myself.

I've seen them throw stuff on final sale internally. It's never available for sale to consumers, at least from what I've seen. Had a friend picked up a Macbook that was returned 3 times (didn't have any issues) and they wrote it off at 70% off. No idea how that works.
