Pop up ads on front page

Denverticket 317 110 June 19, 2016 at 07:41 AM
I'm getting pop up ads covering the front page on iPad (Home Depot for me)

Is this new? Incredibly annoying and will likely affect how much I use the site.

Can you post an image/snapshot of your iPad screen? It may help the site admins to determine which advertiser is the source.

Hey Denverticket,

Thanks for letting us know. We don't run any kind of pop up ads, or anything other than non-intrusive banner ads. Seems like either this ad was programmed incorrectly by whoever made it or it's a bad ad that intentionally does this and snuck past the automated detection.

We want to block any instances of intrusive ads, so if you see it again, feel free to share a screenshot with us (and clickthru URL, if possible) because it will help us locate the ad.

Thanks!

That looks like malware. If you google the "brought by shopping deals" text you can see many entries on how to remove it; the short version is to go look in your browser's addons or extensions window, and see if you find a listing for it. You should also check Windows' Programs and Features control panel for any entry for it and remove that as well.

I'm getting them about twice while I'm logged in. The are currently Target. I'm using an iPad Air 2. On Safari

Thanks for the screenshot.

While the screenshot theking_z posted shows a overlay ad ad most likely coming from malware installed on the machine, this one seems like it could be from an ad. I just reported it to the ad platform we use - we don't allow these ads so we're hoping to make sure that this ad buyer has been removed from the marketplace. Target wouldn't be happy either that some middleman is bypassing blocks to serve a sticky ad unit.

Thanks. It has not happened the last few time I logged on but it did just happen again. I am on my iPad Air 2, running iOS 9.3.2 using Safari with the ad blocker. Not sure that malware can easily be running....

Hmmm, the adblocker would prevent the ad call so I'm not sure how it's possible that it would be coming from us. We'll continue looking into it, but I'm not sure that this is from our side. Not only do we not run any intrusive ads, but with your adblocker, you should not be seeing this.

And yet another one. Not as large but had to click "hide". Getting pretty annoying. Screenshot
