Ways to get the most value when redeeming Visa Signature Flagship Rewards Points?

I signed up for a Visa Signature Flagship card with Navy Federal a while back, and have a number of rewards points I would like to use. I wanted to get some opinions on the best ways to use these points, as their value for travel seems fairly diluted.

It looks like 10,000 points = $50 if spent on a gift card (Amazon, Walmart) or Visa Awards Card. Other than using the points to receive cash back (statement credit) or in the rewards mall, are there any tips or recommendations to receive a better value per point? As an example, I looked to see if I could transfer or cash these points in for miles on a major airline but it does not seem possible.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

book an airline ticket, hotel room, cruise... and then once the charge posts, call NFCU to redeem points against the charge.
