I wish that Doom was a digital download. I feel like I'm buying a physical copy and then trashing it.

Is this any good? Multiplayer beta was garbage.

For Doom? No, it was $31.99 at Best Buy very recently if you have Gamer's Club Unlocked

I did exactly that. It didn't even read off the disk to install (had the same issue with Skyrim back then). Used the key, it started downloading, threw out the case, disk, everything.

The single player campaign is top grade and probably the best I've played from any modern or even semi-modern shooter. It's an expert mix of what made old Doom great (no reloading, infinite sprint, tons of enemies, fast pace, carry every gun at once) and modern comforts (checkpoints, weapon/character upgrades, collectibles). As far as multiplayer, I've heard mixed reviews, I don't really do multiplayer so I can't weigh in on it.

Wait. So there is a key and a disc? Does the disc not work offline?

You can play it offline once you authenticate the key on Steam, but you need that online connection for Steam at first. Pretty much the same way almost all PC games have gone over the past few years. The disc is meaningless. You just need the code.

I picked up Elder Scrolls Online just when the "Thieves Guild" expansion came out. I just recently picked up the "Dark Brotherhood (Assassins Guild)" expansion now.

I used to be a huge WoW nut up until two years ago. "WoW: Cataclysm" really was the last great expansion for that MMO. ESO is worth every penny and MUCH better than "World of Warcraft" in every aspect. I am surprised at how much ESO just does everything right. I was very skeptical until I finally bit the bullet.

Yeah. Consoles you will still need the disc in the drive. Authenticating on Steam makes it so you don't need a disc in the drive on PC. You don't even have to use it to install on PC.

Rip an ISO first...
I like making install ISOs then putting them in a RAMdisk to install

I liked the Beta for the Solo Campaign... as it is really good, but the multiplayer is just damn boring and gets old REAL fast. I plan on picking the game once it hits $25 or less. Which should be real soon since I have already seen the game for $30-40 after two weeks.

i'm waiting. this came out pretty recently and look how fast the price has dropped. it won't be long before it goes lower - if not for steam sale not much longer after I think.
