Before anyone asks, this will easily power an overclocked i7-6700K with an overclocked GTX 1080

it also runs crysis

It will power it but it's not a very good idea to run high-end hardware off a lower-end power supply.

I believe the $9.99 one was a 400W(advertised) one.

No, that one was 430W and only 80 Plus Certified. This is 450W and 80 Plus Bronze Certified: HERE

Both models are made by HEC.

Firs link, a table with electrical information. Irrelevant to someone without electrical knowledge.

Second link, an article regarding a 500W power supply. The one on this post is 450W.

The 500W model he linked is for a PSU in the same series as this one... by JonnyGuru, a premier source of information when it comes to Power Supplies.

Every Wattage in a particular Power Supply series is not tested by professional reviewers. They are typically only given one model as a sample and told to give their impressions, do a tear-down analysis, etc.

As long as the PSU in the series is made by the same OEM (in this case HEC) and has the same 80 Plus Certification, we can reasonably infer that the build quality is the same.

Running $1000+ of hardware off of a budget power supply is insane, period. You don't buy a Ferrari and stick the cheapest gas you can get into it.

Well,

If an experienced power supply unit tester puts the thing through a hotbox torture test and sticks an oscilloscope on it... comes out and gives it praise somewhere between excellent and above average, and you still aren't convinced... then I don't know.

Performance wise, after testing, the EVGA 450B was given an 8/10

From the same tester, the Silverstone SFX-L 500W I run in my rig "only" got an 8.5/10 in Performance and is powering an X99 rig with well over $1000+ of hardware, I must surely be F'ed...

.
You linked the 500B review, this is the 450B. There is nothing that says it is even the same platform at the 500B so it could have vastly different performance.

Don't cheap out on the one thing that can kill your entire PC.

PSU snob checking in. HEC sucks, the capacitors are lame, no eco mode, only 420W on the 12V!

But on a serious note, it's a fine budget unit. Even these cheap units are a cut above the dangerous power supplies people are often worried about. The only reason (I think) others are recommending something better for an expensive rig is just the fact that cleaner power is better for the health and longevity of your components.

The 450 B1 has all protections except OTP on it (which isn't all that important if you haven't done something dreadful with your airflow); it's far from a fire hazard, even if I personally wouldn't put it in a high-end build.
