Dicks Sporting Goods has a sale on other kayaks as well: (Thanks, VirtualShoplift)

My local (Raleigh, NC) Costco had Pelican Odyssey 100x sit-on 10" kayak w/ paddle for $300. Maybe a costco only model. Here is the Costco Canada link [].

I see now, two different kayaks are being offered. Was on my phone with tiny screen first time I looked.

Top link is for sit on top, bottom for sit in. Good deals. I'd check out a gift card website to see if you can possibly sweeten the deal even more.

Great Kayak for the price only thing I dislike is the small storge for a tackle tray & gulps. taks the back storage out of reach. just my 2 cents

Bought the "sit in" version 2 years ago.

It used to go on sale for $349 in the spring or even lower. I think I paid $329 and had a coupon to boot. Last year the price did not go as low and this year the same. $399 isn't bad. There are $10 off $50 mailers out, probably for score card holders.

You will also need to purchase a paddle so figure on another $30-$40 for the entry level paddle.

There is enough room in between your knees for a couple small to medium tackle bags. I read a review where someone attached a small rope to some kind of storage bag. It could be pulled to retrieve it from the area in front of one's feet while out on a paddle. Good idea as it's inaccessible otherwise and would provide additional useful space.

The front and rear pods are for dry storage, not particularly well suited for accessibility while on the water.

The kayak is not feather weight. One doesn't need to be Hercules to put it on top of a car, but if this is your plan you would be advised to see if you are capable. Very easily loaded in the back of a pick up truck.

It's very easy to paddle and moves quite well with little effort. More than 90 minutes of fishing will result in mildly stiff legs and butt. The seat could be modified for improved comfort.

I don't know if you can find another 12 foot 'yak for this price.

After having paddled sit in and sit on top kayaks I'd have to recommend that if you're paddling for exercise or fun- get a sit in kayak.

If you're using it for fishing, you may prefer the sit-on for ease of motion and stability... but if you want to move through the water and like maneuverability (And ability to move with less exertion) sit in kayaks are usually a lot better than the sit on kind. (obviously depends on the model).
