Ha ha! We all know the feeling. Explain ... What's that? You mean you don't just get it and put it under the bed? Then you can pretend you have always had it when she finds it. Plus, they don't really look at the guitars. She'll never know. laugh out loud

How do these compare to American Stratocaster?

I have a previous generation roadhouse strat. Specs here - http://www.themusiczoo.com/produc...tic-White/ Spec-wise it's slightly different than the current roadhouse sold here (no S-1 switching, different headstock) but I love it. I also have an American deluxe tele and still pick up the strat all the time.

The biggest difference I could see from the American and Mexican guitars was setup out of the box. The American was perfect, frets were perfectly dressed and smooth, strings were setup perfect, intonation was on. The Mexican needed a little setup (neck needed to be adjusted a little, and i needed to add trem strings to lock it down to help keep it in tune). But overall the magnitude of the difference in price do not reflect the difference in quality.

If you like the sound of the texas special pickups this guitar is a home run for the price. Personally I like the hotter pickups, especially on the neck and middle positions, though I have never really got along with the bridge pickup.

This deal is quite slick! Especially considering a plain jane MIM Standard is $599. I wonder if these models are getting phased out. I had a Deluxe Players and it was a truly excellent instrument and needed no upgrades.

These play pretty,,,pretty...pretty darn good! Tried the blonde. Noiseless pickups sound good, has a booster that acts like a blender pot of some kind and feels great. I don't care for the color or gold hardware but it's a solid playing strat, especially at this price. One thing I love is the jumbo frets, makes bending so much easier. And remember, the MIM strat is made in Baja Mexico, basically a few hours from the CA plant, that hires US Mexicans (I'm native American/Mexican so no disrespect, just saying it's the same thing).

A few months ago there were quite a few from Adorama & World Music Supply. I didn't have the money back then so regrettably I never bit. However I did bite on the Fender American Deluxe Plus Stratocaster from last week. Such a beautiful guitar!!!
