thanks op. ended up with 4 TB Seagate Expansion Portable USB 3.0. last time i paid the extra money for the wd drive that had a red drive inside and died in just over a year. this time just going with the cheaper seagate.

Unfortunately too thick. Limited to a 2tb in the thin form factor for the time being.
