This is a pretty good deal, but after some painful back & forth, I'm going to spend an extra 20 bucks on a Synology as it supports automatic Amazon Cloud sync (and supposedly the software is easier to use). I like the way QNAP looks more and it has a more powerful CPU, but I have reservations about it being ARM architecture plus the software reliability thing (people report issues with Plex).

Edit: also, apparently TS231 is about 2 years old now

In regards to the Synology, it also have a lot of problem with Plex as it uses ARM processor as well. For $149 can't go wrong with the QNAP. If you plan on using Plex, I suggest the TS-251 which is about $100 more. That unit have HDMI out for Kodi usage and uses Intel Celeron Dual core and will support Plex better.

This NAS should be a good one for data storage and backup. If u wanna run Plex media server on a NAS, you should always consider transcoding, especially now Plex still can only do software transcoding so the CPU power is definitely something you need to think about.

This page has some great info about how to choose the right NAS for Plex and it does tell you things u need to know about using Plex: https://www.qnap.com/solution/ple...nas/en-us/

This is a great deal. If you only use for data backup and share files with family. This should be one of the greats share storages regarding to its price and performance.

I doubt this is able run Plex. I have both ARM system of Synology and QNAP. Both couldn't run Plex smoothly. I think it's because the power of CPU. I'm thinking of buying a Core-i series NAS to run a Plex server. Still couldn't find a proper one. Maybe someone can suggest one foe me. For both of my ARM systems. I like QNAP more, which it offers more features than Synology does. The hardware design looks more robust as well.
