Nice review here:

JeanRichard is the "introductory" brand of Girard-Perregaux, much like Rolex / Tudor. Well made, with its own styles, but using less expensive movements to keep prices more affordable. This is the Terrascope reference 60500-11-201-11A, a dress / sport hybrid with a design reminiscent of Gerald Genta and the Patek Philippe Nautilus.

It's a really basic watch with a really basic movement (regardless of ETA or Sellita) from a dying brand for $800.

I'm surprised you would even recommend this.

A Rolex Submariner also has a basic movement and basic features and costs 10 times this. Now, I am not comparing this to a Rolex Submariner, just saying that price is a bit more complex than that.

Personally, I think JR is a nice entry level version of the GP, although this one would be too big for my wrists.

Come on you can't compare it to Rolex when they're a pure manufacturer with it's own patented steel alloy, hairspring, and shock absorbers. While Rolex is overpriced in my opinion, it is certainly worth a pretty penny.

I'm comparing this JeanRichard to the hand full of other comparable brands that are frequently heavily discounted like Edox, Hamilton, and Eterna.

It's not a basic watch. These are very nice. I own two and the case, dial, and hands are obviously way above the $800 point.

Yes they use a Sellita movement. I have two other JR that use the in-house JR1000 that is effectively a GP4000, a very, very nice movement.

JR is trying to up production 500% per their newest CEO. That was reported last fall. They are not dying. They are simply scaling back the high end and focusing on the segment that this model falls into.

I have 4 JR watches and love them all. I have spring drive Seikos, Tudors, Grand Seiko, and many other nice mid tier watches. This JR is well into mid tier even with the Sellita. When comparing to Tag, Bremont, and many other mids that also use Sellita/ETA, this one is almost always a nicer watch. I've owned hundreds and handled thousands over 30 years of collecting. This JR is a nice watch. I stand by it.

Nope, I was commenting on the relationship between price and complexity (features).

It's actually a very well built watch. The case and bracelet feel like a tank and the finish is nice. I think it's worth the $800.

If you only like safe designs then yes, it is a "really basic watch" that takes no inspiration from other legendary designs and models that overflow in the market.

If you like bold designs with different elements, surfaces and finishes, etc., then this is the watch for you.

Not to argue, but this design has Genta all over it (not a bad thing). It's a poor mans Nautilus.
