Saw this in a store yesterday... sold out, of course. Didn't have time to hunt down the number, but it looked like a dozen models on clearance. I did pick up an old Toshiba A8-6410 17" for $149.

Just grabbed one locally. It was the only store in my area showing this price. With "one or less".

The one I got is from 2014, but still sealed... not sure how good the battery will be. Should be covered under warranty though.

The processor is the Intel Core i7-5500U. That's a dual core ULV Broadwell chip.

almost bought one but 720p on a 15 inch laptop is a big no for me.

I looked up the i7 benchmarks, and my desktop i7 processor released in 2010 outperforms this chip by a hefty margin.
4014 vs my 5193 Passmark score.

I know those benchmarks are just a guide and synthetic, but that's pretty poor performance for what I would expect in a 5 year difference between processors labeled as i7's

You're comparing a desktop processor vs a low power mobile processor. In addition if you have any of the quad core i7's from 2010 this low power 5500u will beat them out with anything that's more biased toward single core turbo performance and will be just behind in multi-core performance. That's pretty good progress for a little 15w dual core chip. If you're talking i7 6+ core performance, sure it falls behind but did you really expect it to keep up using 5.5x less power and 4 less cores? This is a lot of mobile processing power for the price.

it's a U series processor, they are never as powerful as desktop class. There are a ton of 1st gen desktop i7s that outperform 6th gen laptop ones, they have to do it to reduce power consumption. We're talking 25-45 watts of power vs 95-125 on average, it's more than expected that desktop will beat laptop.
