2.5-star reviews out of 5 star, also be aware that the rated life on these is only 5000. I will personally pass on this one, but thanks for sharing OP

I think 5000 hrs is more like it for all LED bulbs under normal uses. If you turn it on and off 10 times a day like 99% of us then any LED would only last 5000 hrs. It might last 100,000 hrs only if you turn it on once and never turn it off. EEK!

The more pricey ones will go 25,000 hours.

But yet again it is possible they won't make it that long if the circuit board fails.

I agree, the reason these are so cheap is because they are rated for 5k hrs rather than 25k hrs AND they are also not dimmable. Don't believe the "new lower price" banner either, I bough these a few months ago at Lowes for the exact same price. The bulbs work fine although the lifespan is the real question. If you use them an hour a day the lifespan might not be as much of an issue as if you use them 10 hrs a day.

Selling light bulbs that 'Actually' last 25K hours for $2-3 doesn't seem like a very sustainable business model.

That is incorrect. You can't compare the on/off characteristics of an incandescent bulb to that of an LED bulb. An LED is a semiconductor. It's designed to be switched on and off repeatedly.

As far as the 5000 hour lifespan of this particular product, that is pretty poor, which no doubt plays a role in its pricing.

You forgot that an LED light bulb is not only composed of just the LED. The majority of what's inside the bulb is its controller board with full of capacitors, resistors, coils, and circuit boards. Those fail very frequently when you turn it on and off so often. The LED light itself is designed to last over 25,000 hours but the controller board is not. Especially when you turn it on and off several times/day. EEK!
