Been rocking an iPad 3 for awhile now since its release. It's been a good tablet that keeps on trucking. Has been slowing down over the years and is a real bear to surf the web with.

And it will not get iOS 10. Been thinking about finally upgrading with either an Air 2 or a 9.7 Pro.

$170 for a 4 year old tablet? Not worth it. Just ditched my wife's iPad with Retina (iPad 4) because it was having app/browser crashing issues. Can't imagine an iPad that's a year older and with older architecture being any better.

You sure that I can't upgrade to iOS 10 with this iPad?

I turned an iPad3 loose last year thanks to iOS8.x f'ing it up. It worked so well on iOS7. Going to turn my nose up on this one.

Yes. iOS 10 dropped support for all A5/A5X-powered devices. This iPad uses an A5X processor and is not supported by iOS 10.

For this reason, I would recommend against this iPad for anyone considering it. You can get an Air with 4G for not much more money that completely destroys this iPad in terms of specs and length of support.

Looking around, there have been some past deals for a new one anywhere between $150 (extreme ymmv) up to $249 at Walmart. Maybe hard to find one now but even so, I'd rather pay more for something new and more current than $170 for an older, non-supported refurb unit.

I just completely reset out iPad 3 and it's running choppy. There's got to be something in ios8 that purposely slows this down. Not a fan of Apple, they do this with all their devices. This iPad used to be as smooth as butter.
