Paid the same price last year for a 2TB drive that came with a free enclosure and usb cable. Just swapped the drives out now I have a 500gb portal drive

I doubt that you got a WD Black drive in an external enclosure. RPM'S, cache, and quality is what you get with a WD Black drive.

Doesn't do much in terms of PS4 performance though. One would be better off buying a 2tb seagate portable from staples for $64.99 after coupon.

Can you extract the drive from the portable? If not, how does that make sense? And is that deal even live? Shows $89.99 at Staples and no coupon coming up. Also, performance is a big difference, plus warranty length

The 2TB drive I bought was a seagate in a portable enclosure. Taking it apart couldnt have been easier. Some portable drives are soldered/proprietary but a quick google search can tell you what the insides are.

Unless youre getting an SSD as a drive replacement there isnt a huge speed difference

Ive had WD drives fail too. Warranty doesnt cover data recovery if the drive fails anyways

How does this compare to the Hitachi Touro drives? Those are less expensive, easy to extract the drive and both are 7200rpm. Not sure what the warranty on the Hitachi drive is.

Yes you can extract the drive. The 2tb one has a bare drive, while the 1tb one has a soldered usb one. It shows 89.99 at staples, but you can purchase a 25 off 75 coupon from cn-usa for less than $2 (google "staples coupon cn-usa"). Performance isn't worth the price difference to me and if I really wanted performance over price, I would be looking at an ssd and not a hd. So $64.99 for a 1tb black or $66.99 (incl. coupon price) for a 2tb drive. Of course I do understand that not everyone has money to spend for a 1tb ssd, so the 1tb black is a good option, but I just wanted to point out that the 2tb is better bang for the buck.

Note: The 2tb seagate drive i'm talking about does beep every once in a while in due to low power (common issue).
