I was thinking the same thing. Smart watches are trying to look more like real watches and now we have an opposite trend.

Out of curiosity, why do these types of watch cost so much?

A mid-range brand. This one is made with a ceramic case and band (sapphire crystal face) which is very scratch resistant. Somewhat brittle and hard minerals such as mica, found in most concrete, are able to mar the material. They also make hard metal watches of the tungsten and titanium carbide type that easily scratch glass and remain looking like new for years or decades with proper care.

I see. So it's because of the material that they're made off making them expensive for the most part?

And brand prestige. Stainless steel isn't all that expensive but a person can spend quite a lot on a stainless Rolex or Patek Philippe & Co! The materials aren't especially expensive but the manufacturing technique is. If I remember correctly they advertised that the pressure required for their hard metals was equivalent to a 747's weight on an area the size of a quarter under high temperature.

Honestly I have a Rado jubilee and I love it, impossible to scratch and it looks brand new 15 years later
