Seems steep. I don't have any reason to say this other than I purchased an i5 touchscreen with similar specs about a year ago for $599, and it just looks at a glance like it shouldn't cost so much for this. Any special reason it should?

Wasn't looking a year a go, but it seems right now it's a fair price. Mostly comparing it to this similar acer at 550 [amazon.com] that doesn't have the touchscreen/2in1 thing. I haven't seen many similar deals yet with i5 & ssd

I like it a lot. Haven't used it for much more than browsing online, streaming Game of Thrones to my TV, and light photo editing. Annoyances are:
- Trackpad is used for clicking (I like separate buttons) and it feels a little flimsy. That being said, the tracking seems accurate
- Backlight can be uneven, but it's really only noticeable at startup
- Smaller SSD but I figure by the time I fill it up, 1tb+ SSDs will be cheap

Minor gripes - keyboard backlight can't be set to be "on" by default. Glossy screen and weaker backlight would mean I can't use it outdoors (not that I would).

Positives are: Near instant on; Windows 10 is smooth and intuitive (coming from Win 7); Long battery life (couldn't tell you exactly how long); Stays cool while using.

For $400 I am happy and think I got a Good Deal. I would be disappointed at over $600 (I would expect a larger SSD, metal chassis and/or a better screen at that price).

I got in on the same deal as you, and I'll say I agree with just about everything you said. Only thing I'll add is that I was fairly impressed with the battery life. I do mostly web browsing and YouTube, but it lasted somewhere around 8 hours with mixed usage.

I haven't had great experience with refurbished, but obviously the one you post has an i7 vs i5 and twice the hard drive

Does Squaretrade do warranties on refurb laptops? If so, maybe doing refurb + squaretrade would be a "safe" way to go?

Yes mine has the 512gb hard drive and I was lucky enough to get one with a Warrenty until Feb 2017. I got it during there scratch and dent sale but, mine looks like new.
