Isn't the U3415W cheaper than this and uses the same panel?

Yes, the lm340uw2-ssa1 is the panel by LG.

The following monitors use it:

G-Sync
Acer X34
Asus PG348Q

Free-Sync
Dell U3415W
LG 34UC87/97
LG 34UC88.98

the dell supposedly have less of an issue with corner light bleed.. I have it on my Dell U3415W however it was not bad enough to warrant returning.

I paid around $600 at the time I got the Dell.

** edit ** this panel does have other features over the Dell, especially FreeSync, but that will only be of use if you game on non-nvidia gaming cards, and your video card supports it.

great features at a fair price. I think I'd prefer this over a smaller high refresh panel

Weird how all of the ports are on the back of the monitor like that. Does it come with a clip on cover to mask the cables? If the back of this monitor faces the entrance to the room wouldn't this be an eyesore.?

I strongly recommend people wait for this if you want a freesync utlrawide for gaming. It'll be a far better long term investment. With 21:9, viewing angles are far less of a concern so it makes little sense to choose an IPS panel over a VA panel. VA panels are still the only ones available with true 10 bit color support, provide a much greater native contrast than IPS panels, and can be calibrated just as, if not more, effectively to sRGB and AdobeRGB. Generally speaking, a good quality VA panel with an IGZO or LTPS backplane has better picture quality than an IPS with the same backplane tech. The one thing that is frustratingly bad on all monitors at the moment is the back-light as no one wants to move to direct lit or full array back-lights instead of edge lit. Why in the world are we using crappy edge lighting on monitors these days? Even with as little as 8 zones(with dimming that can be turned off in settings when needed) on a 35" panel, you can drastically improve contrast without significantly affecting ghosting or response time.

It's the same panel as the LG34UC87, not the new LG 34UC88 and 89. The curve is also more aggressive on the 98/99 vs. the Dell U3415W, 1900R vs 3800R. So, no, not the same panel as the U3415.

Also, they eliminated a lot of the BLB issues that the 3415 and UC87 had.
