FYI:

Made in Mexico.

"Classic" means it's a "value" recreation of retro/vintage guitars.

"Player" means that Fender asked certain people to make it more player-friendly and make some tweaks to the original design.

Therefore, a "Player" may have bigger or flatter frets, better pickups, better saddles, etc. while the "Classic" keeps the original design. A "Classic Player" would therefore have the original designs and looks but with tweaks and upgrades that should make it a better guitar, while keeping the cost cheaper than "American" guitars.
*sigh*

It seems they can't get rid of these triple telecasters.

If you are interested in this guitar it is worth going back and reading the numerous deals threads on this model.

My brief summary is that this is a highly specialized guitar since it has 3 nocaster bridge pickups. If this is the specific model you are looking for then this is a pretty reasonable price for this specific guitar.

However, if you are looking for a good value on a tele style guitar I would instead look at a G&L Tribute ASAT Classic which are Indonesian made guitars with USA pickups and generally have a high-quality fit & finish. These regularly go on-sale for less than $400.

Does anyone know if I could replace the pickguard and electronics for a standard two pickup configuration?

I might bite when this is $350, but $460 for a weird triple MiM telecaster that they just can't sell doesn't seem like the best deal you're going to see

You could replace the pickguard, pickups and the switch. Reinstall and re-wire it all. What would be the point in that though? You could just get a standard MiM tele for around $500.

I'm goint to say no, you can't just replace the pickguard and electronics for a standard two pickup configuration. This guitar has three bridge pups so in addition to the pickguard and electronics, you're going to have to route the body to accommodate a standard Tele neck pup. And then of course you would also need to buy a standard Tele neck pup.

The easier thing would be to do an Esquire mod. nod

ajnuzzi, jnick831 is right. I bought the guitar and did that exact mod. I did have to route the neck pickup route to get a normal neck pickup to fit properly, but it was worth it; it's now a killer guitar. Please note though that these are NOT equivalent to the $500 mexican standard. These have vintage tuners, frets and 3-saddle bridge, and the pickups are Alnico NoCasters - way better than the cheap ceramic pickups in the standards. Many say they are the best Tele pickups that Fender makes, and are better than many "boutique" pickups. You can easily sell the remaining two bridge pickups on ebay for good money, and that will easily cover the cost of your pickguard, neck pickup, and 3-way switch. Good luck!

I've been refreshing the page 10x a day for the past week because after seeing the pattern over the past year for Fender products on Adorama, I knew there would be another price drop or rebate. I wasn't willing to pay more than $440, and it happened! woot
(Although if they don't sell enough units, it'll probably drop to $400 in the third week of July.)

I caught the rebate when it went live a few hours ago. I was going to create a new post but I see that you just updated your original post from last week.
