I have 80,000 UR points that I can't use because travel plans changed for this year due to Zika and work. What should I do with them?

Thread Details

We were planning to travel but Zika and work has stopped us from being able to plan something.

I want to cancel the card before the annual fee starts to kick in.

Should I just save the points by opening a Chase freedom? Is that even possible? How then do I convert again to the generous ways to use as a Sapphire? Are these points transferable to a spouse if they open a Sapphire card?

What would be the case value if I sold to a broker?

Are the UR points transferable to a spouse so I can cancel my card this year and my spouse can open one before I cancel?

Thanks guys!

I'm correct in thinking you have a Chase Sapphire card with those 80,000 points right . If so, I'm sure you can downgrade to a Chase freedom card before your annual fee date. you would be able to keep those points but I'm not too positive you can upgrade the following year to chase sapphire again.

Look in the other points selling thread if you are looking to sell. You should easily get 1.4 to 1.5 cent per point so 80k should get you at least 1,120. I recall reading that the points are not transferable to family. So if you still have future plan, downgrade to freedom to keep point. Then apply for a new sapphire when you are ready or even a ink plus.

You could also sell them for cash. You can PM me!

Downgrade into the Freedom. When I did mine it had to be after 12 mos but that's not a big deal with Chase since they give you 30-60 days after annual fee to downgrade/cancel and have the AF refunded. So no worries if The AF hits. The Freedom can be a sort of holding pen until you or your spouse gets a UR earning card that can transfer (ink plus biz, sapphire preferred). Then it's really easy to transfer points between accounts assuming you or your spouse is an authorized user on one of the accounts.

Yes it possible, probably one of your best options

How then do I convert again to the generous ways to use as a Sapphire?

Either xfer to your spouses CSP (you may have to be added as an authorized user) or open up a new chase sapphire preferred at least 24 months after opening the 1st

Yes

Look in the point selling thread, I think its around 1.4cpm

Are the UR points transferable to a spouse so I can cancel my card this year and my spouse can open one before I cancel?
Yes, as long as you are at the same address and I believe you need to be an authorized user

Thanks guys!
Last suggestion is you could just xfer to united (or whatever partner you plan to use) before your cancel the chase sapphire preferred.

You can downgrade to freedom, and then back up again - whenever you decide to transfer.
