Baseplates are one of the few Lego-compatible (aka Knockoff/Clone) products I've had good experiences with - at $6.39 this isn't that far off from the $4/ea the 10x10 fakes go for, but if you need a bunch of them take a look at the other stuff that's available

I had no idea as a small child in was playing with a gold mine of legos. These prices have skyrocketed. Holy cow!

Actually you're dealing with something that has been part of "human factors" that economists have been studying for decades. Our concept about the "value" of things is set very early in life, so the idea of what $1 purchases or $100 gets "set" at an emotional level. Then when those items keep climbing up in price, it is apparently well nigh hard-wired to that "it keeps getting more expensive."

BTW - and I haven't researched this, so this is more extrapolation, this was part of the intent of letting the mortgage/housing crisis/bubble whimper on as long as it has. As long as the house comes back to something approaching it's the orginal number of dollars in price, people don't feel so negative about it. Even if the value has dropped considerably. Of course inflation has stubbornly refused to cooperate, but the fed will eventually electronically inflate the money supply enough...

I'm just dumbfounded by a Lego set be it star wars or some other movie costing $100 plus. Inflation or economic factors be damned. I totally agree expensive has a different meaning to different people.

I always said the same thing about video game consoles...that as soon as they hit $400, nobody would buy them anymore. But that's been the normal price for a current-gen console for almost 15 years (the last new console I bought was XBox "one" -- the original!)
