Good deal, but the Extended Editions are way better. Unlike The Hobbit, LOTR needed the extra time.

Good deal. Target had it for around the same price a few months back.

This is great if you don't really care about watching the extended editions.

The extended editions exist. These are basically only good as coasters.

I much prefer these over the extended editions. Adding 30 minutes of fluff to 3 hour movies makes them interminable. I picked up this exact edition from Wal-Mart for $7 on a Black Friday deal.

I'm still trying to figure out how one regular size book turned into three movies, but three fairly thick books only needed one movie each.

Yeah I know, but that reeked enough that I waited for the movies to hit red box for a buck instead of buying three movie tickets.

Technically, i'm still kinda waiting, but the LoTR was great. If I fall asleep again, I will be waiting longer.

I believe I already own both versions on DVD. I finally broke down a while back and bought the extended edition Blu-ray set. Do I really need this? Probably so. It is a great deal... And sometime the extended is just too much for some people.
