anyone can find cheaper toner cartridges for the either this Samsung M2830DW or Dell E514DW? The cheapest I can find per cartridge average (either buy 1 or 2) in eBay is still more expensive than Brother's or Canon's.

I bought one of these a few months ago and it works really well. Toner is empty (sample toner?) and its time to replace it. Looking online i can literally buy another printer for the price of the toner replacement. $89 is too much for black and white toner.

This is on $25 for toner, why not this cart?

I think I am going to buy this printer if this is only complaint, amazon rated it good, and it has AirPrint

Is the toner on both refillable by yourself like the hp photo printers?

Btw these toners last over 1k pages per toner right?

Would they dry by itself if just sitting in the printer?

You can print them, but they won't look very good. Toner shouldn't dry out (its already a powder).

The Dell is 2500 page yield on oem cartridges. To put that into perspective, I finally ran threw my first cartridge in an old Samsung mono laser that I bought 7 years ago. Half its printing was probably the demo page from kids hitting the button....

For home use, the cartridge should last years. Great deal.

A) You can get generic replacement [amazon.com] toner for the Dell for < $20
B) You can buy a Brother TN-660 generic toner [amazon.com] (<$15) and then switch out the one gear that's a different size on the Dell version so the Brother will fit.
C) You can get a toner refill kit [amazon.com] with addon flag/reset gear for < $10 and reuse the original Dell toner.

Plenty of youtube videos to help refilling the toner.. also would help showing how to remove and replace gears if you switch out with a TN-660 instead.

Not sure about the Samsung.

Toner is completely different from ink printers. It's essentially powered plastic that's melted (fused) on the page. So no, it does not dry out. Yes, the cartridges are as easy to replace as inkjet cartridges.. just bigger. Toner is usually over 1k pages, but can vary greatly. These toners for the Brother/Dell printer can hold 600 (starter) up to 2600 pages worth (at average 5% coverage). Other printers can have toners with over 10K pages rating. Finally, yes, you can print a photo on a black only printer... only it comes out in black and white (duh).

Thanks for the very useful thread. Do you have a link for the gear switch? Also, which method/toner are you going with for your printer and does it work perfectly? Thanks again!

Seems pretty clear that it is NOT a duplexing scanner... Dell web page says "Automatic Duplexing: Yes (printing)". I'm actually well-versed in marketing speak, omission means it doesn't do it.

Bummer for me. Fully duplexing laser would be nicer than fully duplexing inkjet.
