Can't believe the R7 250 is still over $30.

Don't waste your money on the R9 380, it's just been obsoleted by the RX 480 starting at $200. The upcoming cheaper RX 470 may still have better performance than the 380, but that's an unknown.

The exact same card was +14 at $150 AR only 12 days ago: HERE

Considering it provides about 2/3 the performance of an RX 480, I don't really see why the price is that unreasonable. There is a 2 GB variant that was recently on sale for $125 AR. However, they usually keep a $15 to $20 gap in between cards like that to account for double the memory.

I was planning to pick it up, is that a no-go? I'm looking for a cheap (sub-$80) card to use for very light gaming. Any recommendations?

It's not a horrible price, but for only a little more you can get a much better card in the 480 if you are willing to wait for supply to stabilize. Also, if you are willing to wait, the GTX 1060 and RX 470 releases are on the horizon. The GPU market is turbulent right now because of the stream of releases of a new generation of cards.

I wouldn't waste time doing rebate for R7 250.

I'm not sure what your definition of light gaming is, but it's difficult to find cards for gaming under $100, at least new. I was able to score a GTX 950 recently for $100 AR (was a frontpage deal), which is a fairly capable gaming card. Probably the lowest-end cards you'd want for gaming would be GTX 750 or R7 360, but it depends on what you are doing. I see that there are currently some R7 360 on Newegg for $80 AR, and a 750Ti (better) for $100 AR. Or you could go to Ebay, you could pick up something like a 7850 fairly cheaply.

This chart is a handy rough guideline for comparisons:

Obsolete is kind of a strong word. It's definitely worth less now, but I still think it's worth approximately 40-60% less than a 480 @ 200.

If you're on a budget, getting this card should be fine for the price. Idk why people are always pushing people to get the new cards.

Because the new cards have changed the price/performance standard for the whole industry with hardly any of them out yet. Going for a last gen card on a random sale while the industry is right in the middle of a pricing shift of this sort is the opposite of slick.

Besides prices after a few years they drop driver support for the older cards, So if you plan to hang on to a card a few years is something to consider. They also tune the drivers for the newer cards, so the latest cards will get faster while the older cards may get slower by a few percent..
