Their dressers killed three children? That's awful.

29 million dressers? At $100 each, that's $2.9 billion. And that's just one model of dresser. That company is huge.

I just put together one of these 2 days ago. There are warnings in every drawer about securing it to the wall. of course, i put mine on heavy duty casters and used door hinges to attach it to a bed post, lol.
Its strange they have to do a recall just because people dont follow directions.

My daughter has one of these in her room ever since she was fairly young. Don't open all the drawers at the same time? Seemed pretty common sense to me, and I seem to remember that there was an anchor kit with it or at least instructions on securing it.

Maybe I can return it and get a nicer piece of furniture since she's in middle school now. Big Grin

I have 5 of these. Going to be super annoying to drag these back to ikea, as soon as I move them it falls apart. But new drawers would be a incentive especially since they are damaged.

I've got a six drawer malm that I've been lugging around between 3 house moves that has seen better days. I thought perhaps I can get a refund and buy a better unit, though when I tried calling the number on the recall page it says all lines are busy and it just hangs up. Mad

(1) My understanding is the instructions for securing the dresser to wall were only recently added (post 2015?) and IKEA has been selling these drawers for a long time
(2) Do all dressers need to be secured to the wall? I've never heard of that and I've bought dressers from real furniture stores before. So maybe there is a design defect in these IKEA Malm dressers.

Do you need a receipt for return? I saw the recall list includes Hemmes as well, but it specifies 'stain.' What does that mean? Mine is white.

Not to open more than one drawer is a common sense for adults.... But kids don't know that... So, either have a drawer at location which kids can't access or anchor or just return as part of the recall....

They'll come pick it up if you can't take it in.

How does that work? Do you call them? Do you need a copy of original receipt? We have the same issue and dressers are on the 2nd floor. I'm not sure I can move them without movers, or disassembling them which would be a pain.

Are they refunding based on current price or the lowest price they were ever at?
I don't think there is going to be a lot of people returning these.
I always told my wife, do not leave the drawers open and do not open more than one drawer at the same time. I also keep my heavier stuff on bottom drawers since I can't really anchor this to my wall, there is a big space between my wall and cabinets due to the heating elements.

It's all in the link in the OP's first post.
