It's time to dump ES File Explorer if you haven't already.

Solid Explorer is mentioned here, as well as OI File Manager:

I have been using the free version of Amaze File Explorer [google.com] ever since ES File Explorer started having lockscreens with ads [reddit.com]. I may give Solid Explorer File Manager a shot, but I did do the trial version of it and liked Amaze more.

Looks very similar! I really like Solid myself, I may have to try Amaze.

I still use ex file explorer but pro version. It's ad free and was .99 when I got it.

This file explorer is pretty solid. Bought it a while ago for 99 cents.

Best file explorer I've used so far, and I've pretty much bought all of them. I have to admit that I'm a stickler when it comes to keeping up with Androids modern app design paradigm. I've probably glossed over more feature rich file explorers because they look like MS-DOS. That said, this one does everything I've ever needed a file explorer to do.

Does Solid allow backup of apps to .apk? This was one of the features I loved about ES File Explorer (and used it to roll that app back after it became bloated advertising hell-ware.)

I got this deal a while back and have been pretty happy with it. I also was fed up with all the popups on ES explorer. This one does pretty much everything I need. It's not perfect though, but pretty good. One thing I appreciated was you buy it once and can install on all you devices for that one price.
One drawback, when a file transfer (for me, usually over my home network) fails, it doesn't give you any notification that there was a problem. So now I go back and confirm that everything copied over, just to be sure.
I may have to try Amaze since there were multiple mentions on this thread.

Does it have "copy" option?
Many file manager apps only have "move".

Will this work on Android TV devices like the Shield TV?

Edit:

Seems it will be coming to Android TV:
