The Amazon Echo is a smart voice response and home automation essential. You can talked to the Amazon Echo by saying it's wake up word, by default "Alexa"

Some basic commands you to ask your Amazon Echo:

"Alexa"
what's traffic like to work
play smooth jazz
set a timer for 20 min
set an alarm for 8:00 am

You may also pair your Echo with smart home devices such as, but not limited to, Phillips Hue bulbs or Google's Nest thermostat, and Belkin's WeMo:

"Alexa"
turn off kitchen lights
dim kitchen lights
all lights 100%
Change the temperature to 70 degrees
Turn Fan on
^^Example if you have a WeMo power outlet

As cool as these are they aren't worth anything near $135, and certainly not $179. I'll pick one up when it's $50. They need to let you set any name you want for it too.

These aren't going to be $50... ever. They probably won't even be $100. It's a really good radio, with a pretty decent computer inside... plus 7 microphones.

You can probably find a Jet coupon for 15% which will make this $155 new... shipped.

As for the Echo? I love it... I bought one for my GF and she loves it... and mom... and guess what... loves it.

The Echo is absolutely amazing. "What... it's just like Siri... right?"... "Um... NO... this actually works... like almost all the time"... If you own one... you know what I'm talking about... to repeat myself... yeah... it's genuinely amazing. (and the sound quality is as good or better than any of my other high-end table radios, such as Boston Acoustics, and a Logitech Boom... which this has made more than obsolete.)

Honestly, the Echo is a great device to get you to buy more crap. What else could it possibly do that's so useful? Tell you some weather tidbits, news, answer random questions like "How many ounces are in a lb?". Setting alarms and shopping lists are cool I guess but that makes this a pretty expensive alarm and grocery list.

Not worth it for me, was just about $150 after tax and shipping.

To note, I read somewhere the other day Amazon Day will have discounts for the Echo line this year, here's to hoping it's good!

They've been $95 and $99 directly from Amazon, which is what I paid for both of mine. And with Amazon Prime Day coming up on the 12th, who knows. They've been $119 and $124 with promos as well, all new.

I use mine to add voice control to my smart home. It's really nice to be able to shut off the downstairs and porch lights before I go to bed. Also, nice for music when cooking and hands are unavailable to change song, volume, etc... Best voice control available, hands down.

BTW - Isn't SD also a " device to get you to buy more crap"? Grow up.

When did you end up getting them for $95 & $99. When they used to invites I got an "invite" to buy one $99 or so. I am just curious, not being sarcastic.
