Really tempting, might have to pull the trigger on this one.

Side note, for anyone wanting the higher model with the window, realize that the window will be covered in soot/smoke after a few uses. While you could tend to it and clean it religiously, it would actually harm performance to clean it.

I can vouch for this. I have the wrong with light unit. It's more than useless. It's not smoke or soot, but moisture that inhibits any sort of view....it also adds just one more area of potential tial heat escape ( around edges of glass)..mine doesn't seem to, but it's something else to consider

Confused It is a real smoker. The only difference is the heat source. You feed wood chips in like any other smoker and the heating element in the bottom makes them smolder/smoke.

I so much wish I jumped on one of electric smoker deals (like this one, for example), and not on a "regular" charcoal smoker. Yes, it tastes great and it was at a great price (on Brinkmann sale earlier this year in Home Depot), but man I am usually so exhausted by the time my brisket is done - it just requires so much patience and dedication. I love smoked meat though, so maybe one day I'll get an electic one as well Smilie

I love the convenience of not needing to worry about running out of gas half way though a 6 hour cook. I would buy it again or sure.

Was $130 @ Ace this month. Has been as low as $85 at Amazon. This price isn't all that great.

Get a better smoker. You can "dial in" a ceramic kamado like the Big Green Egg or a homemade Ugly Drum Smoker and leave them for hours without worry.

These cheapo electrics don't have a thermostat to control the temp. So when the sun changes, it rains, a cold front goes through, etc, you have to make sure you check the temp and figure out the right place on the dial to set the heat.

Thanks, but I think I'm done with charcoal smoking forever laugh out loud I know the Egg is top notch, my buddy has one, but I'm still leaning towards electric one with easier temp control.

You sure you are doing apples to apples on this model? Lowest on CCC shows $139.97 at Sep 24, 2013.

had this, didn't last two seasons in the hot desert sun... the plastic warped and the digital control panel became unreadable

yes the convenience is great, but the only good thing to come out of it was jerky.... everything else was just meh...

I have much better results from my kamado

also, this thing is very small you will struggle to fit baby backs in there (the longer ones anyway) and forget about a full brisket... if you must buy electric get the much wider model, masterbuilt 40 (the number doesn't refer to width, but it's much wider)

got mine for $160 in December 2014, so not that hurt
