I have the 16 port. Nice switch with a lot of great features like port aggregation, QOS, virtual lans, status monitoring, etc.

Couple of things that'll be a PITA unless you know about them. Out of the box the switch will come configured as a static 192.168.1.1, most likely the same as your router. Hook it up with a network cable to a PC not connected to the router, go to 192.168.1.1 and either set it for dhcp or another fixed address outside of your routers dhcp pool.

Next update the firmware. The newest firmware fixes lots of problems. They haven't sent out an update in quite a while though, I think a year. So they may have left this behind at this point.

Lastly, a big one that screws up a lot of people is that the settings have an 'apply' button, which applies the changes to the running image but does not save them when you reboot or lose power. In the upper right hand is a separate 'save' button that does that. This is so you can try stuff out and if it doesn't work, reboot and get your last save settings.

That's a really good price for managed switch. I have a D-Link 24 port that is kind of flaky, generally only putting through about half the advertised bandwidth. I'm in for one.

Appears to be fanless, so probably no noise.

Nevermind, I think the Amazon link I went to was wrong.

No fan in my 16 port so no noise. I have it stuffed into a cabinet and its warm to the touch but not at all hot.

Some models and some older versions of the 1900 line did have a fan though.

Got mine yesterday. Your comments were very helpful and much appreciated. The only thing I would add is that you need to set the IP in the PC as DHCP isn't enabled in the switch. This is my first managed switch so I'm still learning.
