The "free" Premier membership from back then comes in handy this time. How fast are Newegg rebates these days?

1 - 3 Months. My last OnNetworks one came today, was registered in late April, forget when I sent it out. That said... I'm still waiting on an older rebate that occurred before that one.

Anyhow, in for 2.

With better firmware can these function as an Access Point?

Before I go pass out: With OpenWRT or the like, yes... though to be honest in practice at best they're used as a wireless bridge for a device (like a Desktop or Wired-Network Printer) that you want to get access to a wireless network, though they function fine as a backup Access Point (These are reboxed, rebranded, refurb Netgear routers). Flashing OpenWRT is practically mandatory... I'm not going to dig up the other threads right now, but I'd do a search on these OpenWRT compatible wireless routers and see how people mention that the newer version of OpenWRT, if directly flashed to the unit, will brick it. You have to flash an older version to it first and then upgrade.

Again, see the previous threads for this device, sleep beckons.

Seriously, what do you use it for?
I have 4 of them. All junk, won't stay connected for more than 48 hours.

Pure junk. And customer service is non-existent as somebody else was left holding the bag.

Thanks, OP. These are the perfect substitution for the fake DVD burners.

My dad needs another wireless AP out in his garage that will either be knocked down or killed by a power surge and have to be replaced within 6 months anyways, like the 5 APs that have came before it. This seems perfect for that.

If you need a basic router this might be ok.
But I gotta be honest.. I've found better spec'ed routers at the local junk store for $1.50
im not joking.. and with some regularity I might add.

the shipping kills it for me.
