What is the Wireless Gate Lock nonsense about in the product description? Nothing against you OP, it is the Amazon description. If it does not come with it they should not say that.

I'd say that they meant to say "wireless gateway"

I have been using Veralite for a year without issues. What's the benefit of upgrading? Thanks

Smaller community than SmartThings with a more complex, less user friendly product.

Here's a comparison chart between the different Vera units..
http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index...Vera_units

I have been waiting for the price to go down and for them to iron out the early bugs. I think this is a good price so it's time for me to upgrade from my Veralite.

I suggest you check out this forum to read about other people's experiences on the upgrade. It varies between each user since each have different devices.

Not bad. HomeControls.com had it for $120 a few months back. I purchased through them for about $140 in June.

Also $127.46 with NO tax except for CA at www.homecontrols.com with the 15% off coupon code on their fron page until Monday. So my order at Amazon was $134.41 w/ 6% tax so I saved a few extra bucks going this route because of Amazon's tax now. Though I'm sure that Amazon does probably have the better return policies. Just thought people should have a 2nd spot in case they didn't want to wait on Amazon's backorder or just wanted to save a few bucks on tax... Thanks for the deal OP!

Veraplus has a zwavePlus radio, which is required for the new 5th gen zwave functionality. It also has a Zigbee and bluetooth radio, but those are, imo, of less value given the lack of effective standards for those devices.t here are only a small number of zigbee or Bt that work with veraplus.

There is also more ram and a faster CPU, so it supports a bigger network and more plug ins.

Vera is more fiddly but it also works 100% when my internet drops. Smartthings has, what, lighting support in local mode? I have my hvac controlled by my vera; no way I want my pipes (or family) to freeze because my DSL drops. Or the ST server farm hiccups.

I was contemplating the homeseer Pib as the only other full-featured local mode zwave controller, but the software plug in limitations and prices had me hold back. This will let me jump to ui7 without risking my ui5 vera3 config.

You forgot that it is more reliable than ST. Speaking as someone that left Vera Lite to go to ST, im probably going back to Vera.

The lack of user friendliness is somewhat true, but I'd rather think a bit more and have something that is 100% reliable than something that is user friendly, but 80% reliable.

Example: my motion sensors are set to trigger light between sunset and sunrise. Some days, it doesn't know that the sun has risen, so it'll turn lights on throughout the day.

I had considered going to ST when the v2 was supposed to have local operations but the reality is far below what I need.

Yeah, Vera doesn't have IFTT support but I don't have anything that is IFTTT based because of the "dies when the internet is gone" issue. I have set up some internet weather report driven events to back up my weather radio but they are just that: backups to the primary stand alone tech.
