That's your opinion. No.1 box office of all time isn't just achieved by an "ok" movie.

I remember when Panasonic had an exclusive of this available only if you bought a Panasonic blu-ray player or TV. I ended up getting 3 blu-ray players and selling the crummy movie blu-ray for around $90-100 each on Ebay lol. Lmao.

I enjoyed the movie, bought a dozen of the 3d Blu-ray players on clearance at Target for $40 or so. Like you, I sold the players for retail shipped and then the discs when they arrived. Made enough to buy a 3d TV. I never kept the movie as I waited on an extended edition 3D version that never got made.

Well Avatar story I admit is by no means original, but effects saved it. And I think that's what movies are about, there are so many crappy movies with lame stories that became popular either by acting or special effects. I mean can yo see anyone else but Liam Neeson in Taken or Kevin Spacey in Usual Suspects, although the latter had a great story.

We HATED it. Just because people say a movie is great, that doesn't make it so.

Preachy environmental crap along with "state of the art" effects that looked like crap to us.

A few more examples were the new Evil Dead, Cloverfield and the Inside Man. Or movies like Brokeback Mountain. Didn't need to see it to know it wasn't for me AND that Oscars would be won just because. lol

I would agree. I got dragged by friends to go watch it in the theater and basically was bored 30 minutes in (and I like sci-fi). Effects without a good plot are worthless imo. Plot was written by a 12 year old imo and while certainly not the worst movie ever made, it was just CGI trying to impress with nothing else really making it more than a D film imo. Not even Sigourney Weaver can save that steaming pile of CGI imo. At the time I thought they could not find a screen writer lamer than the one that did Avatar having wrote an ultra-simplest, ultra predictable plot that had more or less been done before. Of course that was before the likes of Mad Max Fury Road. That being the worst big budget sci-fi film ever with no plot whatsoever to go along with no character development and unbelievably bad acting. No deal on that blu-ray though lol.

Like a lot of things these days, standards have fallen badly and now when Hollywood makes something that is not total junk, people seem to think it is great. It really isn't but "good" is a relative term. If one is used to seeing the likes of reboot trash like Star Trek, Superman, Godzilla, The X-Men, etc. or other real stinkers like Mad Max Fury Road, Ender's Game, Prometheus, etc. (and that is just in the Sci-fi genre) and compares something to those pieces of trash, something like Avatar does look good. That is to say nothing of the lack of comedies worth anything these days, thoughtful and entertaining action\adventure films, mysteries or anything in other genres.

If one has seen older film classics and compares those to some of the so called top films these days, it is almost laughable how bad most of today's films are. There is nothing even remotely coming out these days that can hold a candle to the likes of Mutiny on the Bounty (both the Brando and Gable versions), many of the Hitchcock classics, the early Thin Man films, Dirty Harry films, Clint spaghetti Westerns, Alien, Aliens, Terminator, T2, etc. Imo Hollywood has managed in the past 15 years or so to come out with only two sets of films that deserve classic status (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Bourne Trilogy). Maybe someone can find a couple of others, but this is certainly not the Golden Age of film making lol. Obviously all my 2 cents.
