I BELIEVE that display port is open versus HDMI which has licensing fees. and at the time display port was created it was/is better than hdmi

where to begin? displayport has been around like 10 years, and has always been superior in capable resolution and number of monitors supported from one port. It is also royalty-free. Most high-end monitors only support DisplayPort. Many reasons why it is a no-brainer for a manufacturer.

DisplayPort can output 4K @ 60Hz for a long time while HDMI was struggling to get 2.0 out. Even this adapter would shrink the DisplayPort's capability to 4K 30Hz. Many early 4K TV adopters would've been happy if their TV had a DisplayPort.

When HDMI runs 4K just fine , why do we need new standards like Display Port? Lenovo and Apple are the ones pushing it by removing HDMI from their laptops. Just to confuse people and make them miserable looking for connectors all the time? It took me two weeks trying to figure out how to connect my Lenovo X250 to two 1440 monitors using its single display port connector. Finally I gave up and bought the dock.

That's a great deal. I spent 11 on mine. Amazon basics. It's good but I would've definitely went with this.

Thanks for this find! the degradation from 60hz to 30hz isn't an issue for me since many x230's hd4000 can only push out 30hz art 4k anyway. just one question:how does free shipping get applied? i only see a standard shipping and another one- both of which incur a fee. Thanks again.

edit: for some reason, the Amazon Prime stipulation which i was looking for all over when I first saw this on the SD app wasn't showing up...nor was the ebay link. I got one through ebay though.

So...anyone got link to a mini displayport/thunderbolt to displayport cable? I heard many have problems doing 4k and has the 20 pin issue.
