With an SSD my system shuts down in less than 5 seconds...

It's not misinformation. Sure, it CAN take hours, but in general, less than 5 minutes is typical for a basic workstation.

If your high end system still takes 5 minutes to shut down, then you don't have a typical install, and probably have some software installed that isn't shutting down properly (services timing out, etc), or have other configuration issues.
If you don't care if your computer stays running in the middle of the project you forgot to save, no, you probably don't need a UPS.

This larger, advanced unit (with pure Sinewave) isn't needed by most folks, but a UPS is a good idea for any desktop where you do anything you don't want to lose due to that "rare" power failure. Even three minutes is enough for most people. But some of us have power-hungry equipment, and/or systems that don't play nice with lower-end UPS systems, and/or want to stay up & running for much longer than that.

Any PC that uses any OS by Microsoft will take at LEAST 3 or more minutes to close any open windows & properly shut down. Good luck w/that. :-)
