How does this compare to the monoprice printer that was recently ~180-250?
This will be my first 3d printer

The Divinci is crap. Get the MP Select instead. Cheaper/better.

Flash it with Repetier firmware and you'll get some pretty good prints out of it. Plus you won't have to worry about buying overpriced filament cartridges.

Are you saying the DaVinci has the over priced filament cartridges or the MP? My understanding is the DaVinci uses a proprietary filament cartridge.

I personally haven't tried this one yet, but based on the latest reviews on this product, it sounds pretty solid.

I've had this for over a year. don't leave stock firmware, install repetier fw and it's good. definitely worth $300 for those wondering.

Thanks! I was on the fence for a few days. After seeing your comment I'm looking forward to meet the FedEx guy in a few days.

When you get it, toss Repetier on there and you can use Hatchbox Filament from Amazon. It's good.

It's easy to do, just follow the instructions carefully. Check youtube videos. So you short the right pads. That's the only risky step (it has a bootloader so you can erase over and over without brick).

And straighten your mechanicals. There's tons of guides on youtube. Pull your carriage all the way forward and make sure there's no gap on the left and right where it hits the pulleys.

Thanks for the info. I definitely plan to put Repetier on there once I run out of the two cartridges of official filament I have. Wasn't aware of needing straighten the mechanics, but I'll look more into now. Thanks again.

I wish someone could compare this and the mp one. This cost $113 more currently

Given the low price of the monoprice one, I can't imagine why anyone would go the Da Vinci route. Yes, you can go through the effort of flashing it so that you can use it with standard filament and then create some kind of ghetto rigged holder for it but why bother.

The Monoprice one is amazingly well made and shows up nearly completely assembled, calibrated and ready to go.
